News, events and insights at Caffe Portico.
Acoustic- folk duo The Rye Sisters will be performing at Caffe Portico on Saturday 19th November! Ishani and Sue’s perfect blend of mandolin, violin and acoustic guitar make for a great evening of live music. Both artists are heavily influenced by Americana country music such as Dixie Chicks and The Civil Wars, and have been successful musicians for a number of years. It was only in May that they officially started playing as The Rye Sisters, their first gig being in The Rogue Saint in Lincoln.
Come along and enjoy some live entertainment as well as some delicious Italian style pizza! We will be serving pizza at 7.30 from our evening menu (see below) as well as some fantastic Italian wines.
To book, contact 07956653156 or pop in to the Caffe.
Music will start at 8.30 and tickets are only £6 – don’t miss out!
After the toe tapping evening we had on Wednesday, courtesy of the very talented duo Jinski, we want to keep the ball rolling! We will be welcoming Liteside, a firm favourite at Caffe Portico, on Saturday 24th September.
Liteside are a Newark based band and have been playing together for the past 8 years. Their six piece outfit (3 horns, 3 rhythm) have played in all the Newark jazz festivals and at Caffe Portico on many occasions.
Liteside’s smooth, melodic tunes mean you don’t have to be a jazz buff to enjoy them; they call it “jazz for people who don’t think they like jazz”. Their foot-tapping swing & Latin tunes and smooth ballads make for sweet listening. Think Duke Ellington meets Jools Holland and you’ll be in the right area.
Follow this link to have a listen, they’ve put together a compilation to give you a flavour of what a Liteside jazz evening will be like.
Tickets are an absolute steal at £6 so pick up yours while we still have seats available!
As usual a special menu will be prepared, the food being nearly as much of a treat as the music!
We hope to see as many of you there as possible, its not a night to miss, call 07956653156 for more details.
Caffe Portico is well known for its Jazz Nights, but less well known are the Art History talks given by Lydia Bauman. These Talks are perfect for art lovers who are keen to learn more about influential artists and the history of their work. We would like to invite you on Tuesday 16th August at 6.30pm to Caffe Portico for one of Lincoln’s hidden gems.
Our summer talk will be “Eugene Boudin – The Man Who Inspired Monet.”
“Eugene Boudin (1824 -1898) was a native of Honfleur who liked to paint the beaches of Deauville and Trouville. It was he who introduced young Claude Monet (1840-1925) to the idea of painting in the open air, setting the scene for the revolution which was Impressionism. We will look at the remarkable work of this unsung hero of Impressionism and examine his influence on the young Monet.”
After the talk a dinner will be served for all those who would like to dine and discuss.
Tickets will be £10 on the door and this includes a hot drink or a glass of wine (at a small supplement)
You can call 07956653156 for more details
See you soon!

We’d like to invite you to a talk Lydia has given recently in St Petersburg – Russian Art – an Overview which will give a useful background to the current exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery of a collection of portraits from the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow called “Russia and the Arts – Age of Tolstoy and Tchaikovsky”
The talk is about the development of art in Russia from the time of Peter the Great ( 18th century) under the influence of European artists and onto the truly Russian group called the Wanderers who in the 19th century turned their attention to scenes of Russian history, myths and contemporary society and some of the best landscape painting you are ever likely to see. Little known but fascinating and magnificent in many ways.
Tuesday 3rd May 6.30 at Cafe Portico – tickets £10 on the door with a complimentary hot drink (or wine at a small supplement).
Hope to see you there.
