Federico Barocci (about 1533–1612) though now forgotten was in his day celebrated as one of the most talented artists of late 16th century Italy.Fascinated by the human form, he fused charm and compositional harmony with an unparalleled sensitivity to colour.
When George Bellows (1882-1925) died he was considered one of the greatest artists in America. His fascination with New York’s gritty urban landscape and the diversity of its inhabitants, made him both an artist of the modern city and an insightful observer of the early 20th century.
