Café Portico favorites The Warbirds return with an evening full of beautifully written, heartfelt indie-pop songs. The boys have courted a lot of coverage of late, chances are you’ve heard them either on BBC Radio Lincs (as their National Tip for the song ‘Kid On The Street’), in any Co-op around the country (as their artists of the week) or at the Oxjam music festival in Lincoln.

Come to Café Portico for a bit of Bazil in Blighty. In celebration of Mardi Gras we will be hosting a Brazilian themed evening, including cocktails, beers, food, live Samba music and dancing tutorial.

The evenings itinerary looks like this:

7.30pm- free Caiprinha cockail
8pm- Food with Brazilian background music
9.30pm- Live Samba band
10-11pm- A professional Samba dancer to teach some moves to up and coming ‘Strictly’ customers!
11-12pm- Brazilian music and more drinks

Colin Dudman & Friends Charity Jazz Evening

In support of Breast Cancer Care, local favourite Colin returns to Café Portico with fellow jazz musicians. Their acoustic Jazz style is based on a fusion of the exuberant Hot Club de Paris music of Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli mixed with more recent developments in modern jazz to stimulate your soul.

We’re hosting this evening to help support Faye Bowser in raising money for Breast Cancer Care. She will also be taking part in 3 events in 2013 to raise sponsorship – the Lincoln 10k, a gruelling ‘Tough Mudder’ event and a challenging cycle from London to Paris! The band are currently touring venues around the UK and are building up a great reputation as one of the best live acts around. They are a band who will take a song, strip it down to the basics and rebuild it in their own way. This results in some great twists on some great songs.

Lydia Bowman discusses this exhibition of the major works from the Sterling and Francine Clark Institute in Williamstown, Massachusets, in association with the Royal Academy of Arts. The exhibition comprises of the Clarks holdings of French 19th century, pre and post impressionist masterpieces by Corot, JF Millet, Monet, Manet, Degas, Pissarro, Renoir and more.

Boat to Row is a collection of instrument swapping, harmony sharing friends from the Midlands; meandering through all that life and love have to offer. From its beginnings as a solo university project Boat to Row has evolved into a band confident with delivering intelligent, intricate folk. Gaining a reputation for delivering an infectious, uplifting set, Boat to Row have been busy touring many festivals this summer including 2000 Trees, Truck and Larmer Tree.

Robin Auld supported by Treehouse

As an award-winning artist with an international CV spanning 20 albums, Robin Auld has performed and recorded in New York, London, Glasgow, Nashville and played events like Womad, the SA National Arts Festival and Cambridge Folk Festival. Robin plays an eclectic and vibrant mix of blues, roots and funky country songs incorporating slide guitar, harmonica, African blues guitar and soul vocals.

Hailing from Lincoln, Norfolk, ‘Lovely’ Dorset and southern France; The Treehouse are a collaboration of musicians with their foundations in styles as varied as their roots. Putting personal experiences into a wider perspective The Treehouse create their sound with powerful vocals, beautiful harmonies and intelligent musical interplay.

Café Portico August Break and Trip to Italy

It’s the summer holidays and that means, erm, holidays! So, we’re shutting Café Portico from Sunday 19th August until Thursday 30th August whilst we take a trip to Italy for inspiration for some new dishes…

Because it’s the summer break, there are no Café Portico music nights in August BUT September tickets are expected to sell fast so don’t forget to book early and check our Cafe Portico Facebook page and Cafe Portico Twitter account for updates on ticket sales!

Sue Crawford Memorial Fund Music Night

Raise money for charity and enjoy an evening of jazz with jazz guitarist and Grammy Award nominee Neil C Young.

Incorporating aspects of bands led by John Scofield, Keith Jarrett, George Benson and Pat Metheny, Neil’s music is beautifully arranged and full of soul and energy.

Neil uses a raw combination of expression and technique across a variety of influences and styles from Be-bop to bossa with a hint of his rock roots. With the solo jazz guitar at its heart, his music is harmonically sophisticated.

The Sue Crawford Memorial Fund is a charity in memory of Sue Crawford who sadly passed away after battling cancer for eighteen years.  The Fund raises money for four very deserving charities:

1. Marie Curie
2. Macmillan Cancer Support
3. Sue Ryder
4. Beaumond House Community Hospice in Newark
