T E Morris

Friday 9th November 2012
Food served from 7:30pmm Music starts at 8:30pm. Tickets:
£6

Tom Morris is an ambitious performer. Within his band, Her Name is Calla; he leads through wild dynamics and near-claustrophobic intensity.

Relatively new to releasing solo material outside of HNIC, he’s already amassed a healthy back catalogue of five EPs and one full length over the course of 18 months. His second album, ‘And You Were The Hunter’ however, sees Morris take stock and explore a bigger sonic palette – sparse and fragile acoustic ballads now blend with full band performances, giving his immaculate songwriting an extra dimension by wrapping it around new ideas and new sounds.

Released on Morris’ own Olynka Records, the album is as personal a document as you’re likely to find in amongst the current crop of singer/ songwriters. Recalling the brutal honesty of Elliott Smith, and the diverse and prolific output of Ryan Adams, the album tells a story of its own, from desolation to euphoria, from an emptiness to the ecstatic.

“ ‘And You Were The Hunter’ is a breathtakingly beautiful set of songs from an artist who is rapidly maturing into something special”

The Hot Tomarles

Friday 15th June 2012
Music starts at 8:30pm. Tickets: £5

This completely unique duo has stretched the boundaries of what can be done in the acoustic blues genre by creating the sound of a five piece band played by only two members.  How?

The idea is simple – Chris loops the double bass played live on the first 12 bars, thus giving him the opportunity to pick up the harps on the second round.  Simultaneously, Aidan is providing guitar, vocals and floor stomp box to give a full band sound to an otherwise conventional acoustic duo.  This original idea has never been seen before in the blues genre and the band hopes to set a precedent for what can be done live with only two musicians.  We’re impressed!
